ABOUT THE FIRM

DeBresser Wintrip Inc. was co-founded in 2019 by James DeBresser and Ian Wintrip. Following Ian’s retirement from the firm in 2024, James continues to lead the practice, bringing 30 years of experience. Our team consists of experienced professionals who are trusted and respected by the legal community, our colleagues, our clients, and most importantly, the Courts. We have experience with the full range of financial disputes, serving individuals and businesses alike. Our expertise covers financial disputes in the context of breach of contract and tort, with experience in both civil and criminal cases. Additionally, we have a full slate of consultants to the firm, who provide specialized expertise related to personal and corporate income tax, asset appraisal, estate and trust matters, actuarial services and select industry specialties, when necessary.

Although we approach every case as if it will end up in Court, we are proud that most of them do not. Leveraging years of experience and analytical thinking, we customize our services to align with the needs of each client. When cases cannot be resolved, we will clearly and concisely express our neutral and independent opinion when instructed to do so, and we will stand behind that opinion, inside the Courtroom or other decision-rendering forum. We believe that resolving financial disputes should always be unemotional and based on a cost-benefit analysis, an approach that comes naturally to us as accountants. We strive to understand each case thoroughly from the start to evaluate potential outcomes and the associated costs so that clients can make informed decisions.

Our main office is in the venerable Annex area of Toronto steps away from the TTC. You can find us here. We have parking behind out office, or there is a Green P on Spadina Avenue, just north of Bloor Street. We also have a peaceful rural location east of the city where meetings can be arranged. Of course, we also do “house calls.”
